Bindu was born in Kampala, Uganda. When she was six, her parents moved to India for a brief six months due to political turmoil and unrest in Uganda. From India, her parents moved to England hoping for a better life for their children. For this same reason, they moved one last time to Houston, TX. To this day Bindu loves and is proud of her home state of Texas, but is at heart now a proud Louisianan.
In spite of all the moves and different cultures she has been raised in, the roots of connection to her Indian heritage run deep. Indians will move all over the world, and they love their new homes and country, but their connection to their inherited culture and faith always seems to remain strong. Despite this, believe it or not, the majority of Indians know nothing about yoga as it is known in the west.
It was not until much later in life that Bindu accidentally discovered yoga and never looked back. There was just this connection with yoga that she couldn’t let go. It was a very much on and off again relationship for many years, but there was a curiosity and need to understand why all these people in America were practicing yoga and yet most Indians she knew never even talked about it. The on and off relationship finally became steadfast and strong.
At the time she started practicing it was also a way of getting back into shape after three children. And since she disliked any other form of exercise, yoga filled that need. Over time, however, it was no longer just exercise. It became so much more, helping her to transform herself in so many ways on a deep level beyond the physical. Sharing yoga with others became a joy and eventually this led to a very fulfilling career.
Although passionate about yoga, Bindu’s greatest love in life is her family. Her husband and three amazing children are and have always been her priority. They are very supportive and her strength.
